Diesel car on sketched background

If you had asked me a few years ago about whether a car is cheaper to run on petrol or diesel, I’d have said diesel without hesitation. But the scales appear to be tipping in favour of petrol these days… (more about diesel vs petrol...)

An ambulance going fast

The EU is planning to introduce a requirement that says all new cars must be fitted with a system that automatically calls the emergency services if you have a crash. But what are the potential problems with such a system? (more about cars calling for help...)

List with car keys

If you’re off on a European trip and taking your car, there’s always 'the list' of things you’ll need to do and take. Some are out of the ordinary (breathalyser) others are more usual (sat nav), but there’s always that list. (more about driving abroad...)

Car with money

It has been widely reported that the government is ‘scrapping’ the planned 3p per litre increase in fuel duty, due to be introduced in August. But it might not be the u-turn it’s purported to be. (more about fuel duty...)

Easycarseat Inflatable child car seat

When I first saw the Easycarseat Inflatable child car seat, it seemed like an ingenious solution for travellers who needed a seat they could fit in their suitcase. I was genuinely shocked at how poorly it performed in our tests. (more about child car seats...)

Woman driving and using mobile phone

Should the authorities come down harder on drivers using mobile phones? The penalties might be severe, but do you think they are being sufficiently enforced? (more about mobiles and driving...)

Car at night

I recently read about Citroën's competition to ‘design’ a special edition car, with the winning design going into production later this year. It got us talking about our 'fantasy' car features... (more on your fantasy car...)

Carkoon prototype

The recent unveiling of the prototype Carkoon child car seat, which is made of Kevlar and uses an airbag to protect your baby in a crash, got me thinking. Is it worth spending time on innovations like this? (more about the Carkoon child car seat...)

Jeep Compass

The latest batch of Euro NCAP safety results is a small, but significant one. There are new tougher NCAP assessment criteria and one car didn’t perform very well at all – the Jeep Compass. (more about car safety ratings...)

Glass of whiskey and car keys

They’ve added yet another ‘essential’ gadget to the long list of items you must carry if you’re travelling by car in France. From 1 July, motorists driving anything more powerful than a moped must carry a breathalyser. (more about compulsory breathalysers...)

There are now apparently over one million drivers over the age of 80 in the UK (and 122 of them are centenarians!). Good for them I say - as long as they’re still driving safely, what difference does their age make? (more about driving age...)

Sat nav in car

If you have a car accident as a result of poor navigation should you blame your sat nav or the driver? Research suggests that sat navs are at fault, but I think that drivers need to take more responsibility for their actions. (more about sat navs and accidents...)
